Why is my Caladium bulb not sprouting?Updated 21 days ago
Caladium should be grown in moist but not wet compost, at a temperature around 18-20 degrees. This encourages the bulbs out of dormancy and as they progress - which can take up to 12 weeks - you will see pointed shoots developing from the soil surface. These will go on to develop into foliage.
If your bulb is not sprouting after 12 weeks, it may be that it has deteriorated in soil which is too wet, or is not at the required temperature to break its dormant state. You can gently remove some of the soil above your bulb to check on its condition. If you find the bulb is still firm, you should allow more time and check that the growing conditions are correct.
