Why are the leaves pale on my bare root perennials?Updated 20 days ago
When bare roots are supplied later in spring, they will have started to develop shoots and foliage which will be pale due to lack of sunlight. These shoots may look sickly on arrival, however the pale shoots being present and intact show that the root is viable. The shoots should be left exposed above the soil surface after planting, the full root system should be submerged below the soil surface. After potting and being exposed to sunlight, the plant will start to colour-up within a matter of days and the shoots and foliage will continue to grow normally.
