Which summer plants can grow in clay soil?Updated 13 days ago

Young plants and bulbs can struggle when planted directly into clay, particularly heavy clay, so it is necessary to start them off in temporary pots with multipurpose compost to allow them to establish a strong root system and some healthy top growth before planting out. When planting out, it is a good idea to include grit or compost to the planting hole to aid drainage, provide a boost of nutrients and soft medium for the young new roots to settle into.
