Is it OK to plant summer bulbs in wet soil?Updated 21 days ago
Bulbs should be planted in soil which is damp, but not excessively wet. If grown in ground which is boggy or waterlogged for long periods, most bulbs are at risk of rotting. Bulbs can be watered in lightly after planting to settle the soil around them, then watered again when the soil begins to dry out. They should be watered minimally whilst dormant. Good drainage is essential for growing most bulb varieties - if the soil is heavy or has a high clay content, the structure can be improved with the application of horticultural grit, sharp sand, or well-rotted organic matter.
