How long does it take for bare root perennials to start to grow leaves?Updated 19 days ago

Growth rates can vary greatly depending on the plant species, planting time and the growing conditions. Some bare roots start into growth straight away while others will take longer. Those planted early in spring may not be ready to sprout until around April. Bare roots should have a firm crown and often buds are already visible if shoots haven't yet sprouted. On average you can expect to see new shoots appearing after 2-6 weeks when planting in spring. Autumn-planted perennials such as peonies remain dormant over winter and won't show any new growth until the following spring.
