How to store dahlia tubers over winter
Lift dahlia tubers in autumn between late September and mid November. You can wait until the first frost if they are still flowering well in early autumn. Any soil should be carefully removed from around the tubers. Allow the tubers to dry off in a well ventilated place for around 1-2 weeks before storing them in a frost free location, such as a garage, shed or greenhouse, for winter. They can be stored in open crates or shallow open boxes. For added protection and to absorb any lingering moisture you can loosely cover them in sawdust. Check on them from time to time in storage to ensure there are no rotting tubers causing damp among healthy tubers. They can be re-potted between late February and May in frost-free conditions.
