How do I store summer bulbs over winter?Updated 8 days ago
Varieties which are frost tender, such as begonias, cannas and dahlias, should be lifted in autumn. The stems and leaves should be cut back to 5-10cm and the bulb/tuber should be allowed to dry in an airy place for a week or two before storing. They can then be kept dry in trays or shallow boxes on top of a 5cm layer of dry compost or sawdust and stored in a cool, dry and frost-free place for winter. They will not require any water over winter, the next time you water them will be when you pot them up again the following spring.
