Do I need to lift herbaceous perennials over winter?Updated 12 days ago
Perennials should not be lifted and stored out of soil over winter. Hardy perennials are tough enough to survive winter outside once they are well established but may need some protection in the first 1-2 years while they are settling in. Usually a mulch of leaves of compost around them in sufficient. Half hardy or tender perennials can be transferred into pots in autumn and moved under cover (such as a greenhouse) for winter.
