Can you plant summer bulbs on top of spring bulbs?Updated 13 days ago
Spring bulbs and summer bulbs have different growth cycles, so they can often share the same space in the garden. It's not the case when planting in pots as the nutrients in the soil can be depleted after the spring bulbs have finished flowering. Therefore it’s a good idea to refresh at least half of the compost before planting summer plants where spring bulbs have been growing or they may not have enough nutrients for the season ahead. It’s important to check the correct planting depth for your chosen varieties. Summer flowering bulbs like begonias should be planted shallowly and can grow above tulip bulbs which will be much deeper for instance. But note that spring bulbs should be allowed to die back before they are disturbed, therefore planting summer bulbs above them within the correct timeframe can make planting both spring and summer flowering varieties in the same spot difficult.
