When should you plant bulbs?Updated 8 months ago

Spring-flowering bulbs should be planted between September and December—most varieties need several weeks in the soil in cool conditions in order to flower during spring. Flower bulbs should always be planted in the season that they are supplied to you and will not store until the following year.

Summer-flowering bulbs and plants should be planted between late February and June. It is essential that bare root plants are potted up as soon as possible after delivery, but summer bulbs can be stored for a short while if the conditions are not suitable for planting straight away. They should always be planted in the same season as supplied and should not be stored until the following year Some summer-flowering varieties are not frost hardy and must be started in a greenhouse while there is a risk of frost. Some varieties are tropical and should be started indoors in warm conditions during spring.
